Understand Port Antonio Today

Port Antonio has landed in the shadow of major tourist destinations such as Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril, and Kingston, the capital. Port Antonio offers a more authentic Jamaica without All inclusive hotels and cruise ship tourism, It’s a friendly local parish without harassment.

It gives travellers the opportunity to enjoy Jamaica's real natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere.

Tourism is one of the most important sources of income in the country, In 2018 the island had 4.32 million visitors. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus, the island has been affected in a challenging way as all major destinations worldwide but was still able to welcome a little over 1.3 million visitors in 2020, which is an enormous decline of travellers. 2021 1.5 million and in 2022 2.5 million. The island is slowly but steadily recovering from Covid restrictions which affected the nation's tourism industry.

The construction of a new highway connecting Kingston to Portland is currently underway in Portland Parish. This will provide a faster route to Kingston along the coast with an estimated driving time of 1.5 hrs to the Kingston International airport. The completion date is currently undefined and the road condition is poor due to the construction, travelers should be prepared for a bumpy ride. The poor road conditions have long kept the area isolated from major tourism but have also damaged its reputation. It is recommended to drive safely and slowly to fully enjoy the area's natural beauty, despite the inconvenience caused by the ongoing construction of the new highway.
