The Blue Mountains are the longest mountain range in Jamaica. They include the island's highest point, Blue Mountain peak at 2256 m (7402 ft). The peak is accessible via a beautiful walking track. On a clear day, you can see the outline of the island of Cuba from the peak. The Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is world-famous and is picked and harvested in the Blue Mountains, is cultivated between 2,000 and 5,000 feet above sea level. In past years when Jamaica's economy was dominated by plantation slavery, some slaves escaped to the mountains to live independently, where they were known as Maroons, they lived independently on their coffee plantations.
